Season’s greetings, garden friends!

It’s the most wonderful time of the year here in Visalia, and while most people are decorating their homes and picking out gifts, we think your garden deserves a little holiday cheer too! At Luis Nursery, we believe your outdoor spaces can play a big role in creating a festive, welcoming atmosphere for your family and guests all year round! Yes,even in winter. We wanted to share some fun, easy, and beautiful ways to get your garden ready for the Christmas holiday season!

Light It Up!

Nothing puts us in the holiday spirit quite like twinkling lights. String some warm white or colorful lights along your fence, wrap them around tree trunks, or drape them over bushes and shrubs. Solar-powered options are great for energy efficiency and easy setup with no outlets required!
If you have potted plants or a small tree near your entryway, dress them up with lights and ornaments for a magical touch. Your garden might inspire Christmas light onlookers!

Decorate with Nature

December is a wonderful time to bring natural elements into your holiday décor—and your garden can be part of that! Think pinecones, evergreen clippings, red berries, and seasonal plants like holly or nandina. Use them to make wreaths, garlands, or simple table centerpieces for outdoor gatherings.
Poinsettias are always a holiday favorite. These holiday standbys don’t love the cold, but you can still use them outdoors in protected spots such as a covered porch or patio—during the day, then bring them inside at night.

Winter Planting with Holiday Color

Want to add a pop of seasonal color? December is still a great month to plant cool-season flowers in Visalia. Look for pansies, violas, and cyclamen in rich reds, whites, and purples. These tough little blooms love the chilly weather and will keep your beds and pots looking fresh and festive. Oh! Don’t forget herbs! Rosemary not only smells amazing, but with a little trimming, you can shape it into a mini “Christmas tree” in a pot. It makes a fun and fragrant gift too. Rosemary smells so delicious!

Prep for Holiday Guests

If you’re hosting friends or family this season, take a moment to give your outdoor spaces a quick spruce-up. How?

  • Sweep the patio
  • Refresh mulch in flower beds
  • Trim back any overgrown branches.
  • Add a couple of lanterns, and a string of lights
  • Add some cozy seating

With these simple touches you’ve got a perfect outdoor gathering spot to enjoy a warm cup of cocoa by the fire pit!

A Gift from the Garden

Don’t forget.. when thinking about gifts for loved ones that gardening gifts are always a hit. Potted plants, seed packets, gardening tools, or a fresh herb basket from your own backyard can make thoughtful, personal presents. Stop by Luis Nursery for holiday-ready plants, garden gifts, and inspiration! We’re stocked with beautiful seasonal color and friendly advice to help you create something special this Christmas.

From all of us here at Luis Nursery, we wish you a joyful, peaceful holiday season filled with beauty, warmth, and (of course) a little time in the garden.
