Entryway Decorating Tips

The first part of your house, aside from the curb appeal, that your guests see is the entryway. It’s not only important for them, but also important for you that you personalize one of the most used access points to your home. The entryway to your home is something that you can personalize and adjust to match the changing seasons.  Entryways come in all shapes and sizes and each have their own challenges. Here are some tips for sprucing up your entryway with ease.

Decorate with cute pots and annuals

Carefully placed decorative pots in the entryway are a simple way to enhance the space and match the current season or theme. You can switch out the pots or simply swap out the annuals to suit your needs. For example, for Halloween you can plan on planting orange pansies or mums, and for Christmas you can plant cyclamen. You will want to plan out your potted plants based on the amount of sun exposure they will get. Once you know the best plants for the area you need, you can choose the color to match the theme of the season.

Mix up your decorations with simple changes

Seasonal and holiday décor can be added to the entryway to enhance its charm. One of the first things people will notice will be your entryway rugs as they’re wiping their feet or removing their shoes. You can define your entryway and add texture and pattern with the right rugs. Rugs can also be changed out and themed based upon the season or event. If you have a slender chair or bench by the door it can be used to take off shoes or open the mail. You can easily change out throws and pillows to match the season and comfort level needed.

Add themed décor

For fall and other specific holidays, you can add visual interest using traditional décor items. Your front door, and your stair banister could have a Christmas wreath or garland for Christmas, or a fall leaf garland or wreath. Typical fall artwork and inspired pillows can be strategically placed as well as dried florals and throws. You can use pumpkins, and vases filled with dried floral arrangements with autumnal hues.

If you have a storage trunk for outdoor items by the door you can add decorations to the top of it using a basket filled with a throw and some autumn decorative items such as a pumpkin and pumpkin pillow. These items can be easily switched out to suit other seasons and holidays as they arrive.

An entry table can be filled with faux leaves, stacked books, lanterns, faux pumpkins and cute signage. Many items can be transitional. You can leave up fall items and add in Halloween items, and then remove the spooky elements for Thanksgiving. When Christmas approaches you can transition to cooler Christmas and winter colors that could stay around until after the holidays and transition around spring.

Décor doesn’t need to be cluttered or expensive. You can add a few simple decorative items that can be modified and utilize fresh potted plants to add in some holiday flair and color.
