Are you planning ahead and thinking about ordering sod for your landscape? We want to help you take the stress out of ordering and let you know how the sod ordering process goes. Here at Luis’ Nursery, we like to take the guesswork out of your landscaping so you can focus on the task at hand – creating your beautiful space!

Here is the 411 on sod – Sod is essentially grass that is sold in sections of grass and soil held together by the roots. It’s grass that has already been planted for you. Commercial landscapers often use sod for their lawns, golf courses, or for sports stadiums. Homeowners can use it to establish their lawn quicker and avoid soil erosion. It can also be used to repair a section of your lawn that has died, and is effective in increasing cooling, improving air quality and preventing flooding.

Now that you know why it’s awesome, here is how we can help you order some for your landscape needs:

  1. Decide which sod you need

We offer Fescue or Bermuda.

Fescue sod is excellent for our area. It’s great at outcompeting weeds and fighting off insects and disease. It does tend to clump due to his bunch-like growth patterns and may need to be re-seeded after a stressful summer.

Bermuda sod is also a warm season perennial turfgrass with great curb appeal. This type of sod is also heat and drought tolerant and tolerates heavy foot traffic. Bermuda is often found in both home lawns and sports fields. The roots often sit between about 6 inches deep and 6 feet deep increasing its resilience to weeds and other stressors. It’s also quickly grown and loves the heat of the San Joaquin and Central Valley.

  1. Decide how much sod you need

The minimum amount we can order is 480 square feet, but if you do happen to need less than that we can work to combine you with another order so that you we can still get you your sod. This may just take a little more patience! The company requires we order in increments of 80 square feet, so we may need to round up your order as well.

  1. Would you like pick up or delivery?

The company that fills our orders can deliver to your home or you can pick it up from the nursery.

  • Under 480 square feet = pick up from us for free
  • 480 square feet = pick up from us for free or have it delivered for a small fee
  • Over 960 square feet = free delivery from the company

The company will have you sign a waiver to use a forklift on your property during delivery, otherwise they will unload it at curbside. We can let you know a rough estimate of the delivery time the day of the delivery. It’s important to note that we do require payment for the sod when you order it, and you can place this over the phone or come on in. We look forward to seeing you!
