Mother’s Day: Garden Inspired Gifts

Are you feeling crafty? With Mother’s Day just a few weeks away we are starting to think about what we’d like to surprise our mom with this year. Our garden loving moms will appreciate these simple and cute handmade craft ideas for Mother’s Day. You can make these together with your kids and make one for your mom as well!

Idea #1 – Footprint Butterfly Pot

This is a fun gift for the kids to make for you mom. Those cute little feet make adorable footprints! The children can paint their feet and print them on the side of the pot in the shape of a butterfly!

What do you need?

  1. A clay pot
  2. Acrylic paint
  3. Foam paintbrushes
  4. Black Sharpie
  5. Matte spray-on clear coat
  6. 2 adorable feet

How to do it:

  1. Go outside = No mess in the house
  2. Paint the bottom of the first foot – two or three colors of your choice using a paintbrush
  3. Press the foot on the pot
  4. Wash the foot
  5. Paint the bottom of second foot – same colors, or you can mix it up – it’s your butterfly.
  6. Press the foot on the pot so that the two edges are in the middle with a space between them and the arches pointing outward
  7. Once dry draw a butterfly body and antennae in the center
  8. Add your autograph and date to the bottom of the pot for memories sake
  9. Spray the pot with the sealant for durability
  10. Fill with mom’s favorite flowers and you’re good to go!

Idea #2 – Mason Jar Succulent Pots

DIY succulents are the newest craze, and these adorable painted mason jar succulent pots make the most adorable gifts for mom.

What do you need?

  1. Assorted Mason Jars (ball jar, Kerr jar, quilted jar)
  2. Sanding sponge – fine grit
  3. Foam brushes
  4. Paper straws for tags
  5. Deco Art chalky paint colors
  6. Soil
  7. Succulents
  8. Printed paper tags for personalized message

How to do it:

  1. Gather your Mason Jars
  2. Select your paint colors
  3. Paint mason jars light and thin coat and let dry (all but the top lid ring)
  4. Repeat 3 times
  5. After dry distress with the sanding sponge
  6. Add potting soil and succulents
  7. Create personalized tags using paper
  8. Stick in Straw in soil

Idea #3 – Watering Can Gift Basket

Watering cans are a practical and useful gift for you mom, and it can be a fun way to throw a few favorite items together that will be useful for her garden this year.

What do you need?

  1. Watering Can of your choice
  2. Items to stick in the can – ideas: seed packets, gloves, foam blocks, garden gloves, tool sets, floral picks or skewers
  3. Moss or artificial flowers

How to do it:

  1. Put foam blocks on bottom of watering can as filler – adjust sizing as needed
  2. Place skewers in the foam
  3. Attach each item to one skewer using tape
  4. Organize in a pretty way
  5. Decorate the opening with moss, or artificial flowers
